Your Guide to a Stunning Grad Session

With experience photographing 70+ graduates, I’ve learned that a little preparation goes a long way.

My goal is always to capture you looking and feeling your best. So I’ve put together a few tips based on what I’ve seen work well. These aren’t hard rules, just friendly suggestions to help you show up confident and camera-ready!

Camilia’s Grad Guide

Preparation

  • Get enough sleep and practice self care. It’s important to get plenty of rest the day before your session and are adequately hydrated so you feel refreshed for your photos. If possible, have a snack or light meal a few hours before!

  • Give yourself enough time to get ready. Prep as many things as you can the night before. Block off time the day of your shoot to dress, do makeup, or drive to campus. This will also help you take it easy and relax right before your shoot.

Props

Props are highly recommended for grad pics! If a few pieces are missing, usually campus book stores sell extras, or borrow from a friend.

A few things I’d recommend to bring:

  • Stoles and cords.

  • Graduation cap with tassel.

  • Champagne and hand towel.

  • Graduation gown – ironed!

  • Shoes for walking between locations.

  • Extra- biodegradable confetti, class rings.

Outfits

  • Style. For full sessions, feel free to bring two outfits! For high school grads, you can mix one dressy outfit with a second more casual yet refined outfit. Alternatively, university grads can bring both a white formal grad dress and a more colorful dress. Wear whatever represents you, whether its a hobby or cultural dress.

  • Fit. Try on your outfit before the shoot to check for any alterations. For guys, make sure your sleeves aren’t too short, your pants go past your ankles, and wear dressy socks. For ladies, make sure you don’t have any impression lines showing from undergarments.

Accessories

  • Jewelry, electronics, glasses. Watches, necklaces, bracelets, all add to your outfit and final look! We’re going to walk a lot, but please leave your Fitbit or Apple Watch at home. Glasses might have some glare, so give yourself the option to wear contacts if possible!

Locations

  • High School Grads. At time of booking, I will give you a few options for locations. Feel free to choose based on the style you’d like for your photos, and add suggestions!

  • University Graduates Common locations including campus signs, walk ways, museums, historic buildings, sculptures, football fields, etc. Feel free to put together a wishlist or Pinterest board!
